One Day Workshop on Research Methodology dated 18-10-2025

Government National College, Sirsa, organized a research workshop on data collection to mark World Statistics Day: Today, the Research Cell, Department of Economics, IQAC, and English Subject Council of Government National College, Sirsa, organized a research workshop on data collection. Dr. Prem Kamboj, retired Principal, participated as the chief guest and keynote speaker in the first technical session. Speaking on the topic of data quality and standardization, Dr. Prem Kamboj stated that data quality plays a crucial role in making informed decisions. Low data quality will only lead to poor knowledge, and the decision-making process will be inefficient. He emphasized the importance of keeping data quality and standards in mind when collecting it. High quality and standards are the foundation of good research. He urged students to evaluate the quality of data before using it in their research, ensuring high-quality results. Speaking on the topic of types of data in the second technical session, Mr. Surendra Kumar Sheoran, Chair of the Department of Economics, explained that if we want to conduct research, we must have knowledge of the different types of data. Unless we know the nature of the data we need, we cannot collect accurate data. Therefore, we must have a clear understanding of the different types of data. Citing examples from everyday life, he highlighted qualitative and quantitative data, primary and secondary data. Speaking on data collection in the third technical session, Dr. Amandeep explained that data plays a vital role in every field. He described in detail methods for collecting data, such as interviews, observations, and tests. In the fourth session of the workshop, students were asked to collect data from students at Government National College, Sirsa, about their library visiting habits. Moderating the occasion, Dr. Meet stated that quality data and its analysis play a crucial role in research in all fields, including literature, language, economics, political science, psychology, media, advertising, marketing, and science. In his closing address, the college's Principal, Mr. Harjinder Singh, stated that such workshops are crucial for stimulating students' interest in research. He congratulated the organizers for the successful conduct of the current workshop and urged them to continue organizing similar research workshops every month. Concluding the workshop, Dr. Harvinder Singh, Vice Principal, emphasized the importance of data quality awareness in the current environment in our country. He emphasized that students should be aware of the quality of the data they encounter. Seventy-five undergraduate and postgraduate students participated in the workshop. Dr. Indira Jakhar, Dr. Rajdeep, and Dr. Shobha played a key role in making the workshop a success. On this occasion, senior teachers of the college Dr. Gurnam, Mr. Ram Kumar, Dr. Karamjeet, Mrs. Neeru, Mrs. Nisha and Karamveer graced the occasion by participating.
