Professor, GCW, Rania Objective: To foster creativity, environmental consciousness, promote Vocal for Local and encourage eco-friendly products by engaging participants in sustainable artistic practices. A Brief Report: A three-day workshop on Eco-Artistry was organized to provide students with hands-on experience in sustainable artistic practices. The focus of the workshop was to integrate creativity with eco-consciousness, encouraging the use of natural, reusable, and biodegradable materials. During the sessions, students were introduced to multiple art techniques, including block printing, stencil painting, pot painting, and diya painting. The activities were designed to help participants explore traditional methods of decoration while adapting them to contemporary, sustainable applications. The workshop utilized a variety of eco-friendly and reusable fabrics and materials. Cotton suits & dupattas, cotton table napkins, and cotton table mats, cotton handkerchiefs served as the primary products for block and stencil printing. To further promote sustainable practices, students also experimented with jute bags, which are a practical and eco-conscious alternative to plastic handbags and carriers. For decorative art, earthen diyas, ceramic pots and clay planters were used, highlighting the cultural and ecological value of locally available materials. Principal Prof. Harjinder Singh expressed his pleasure, stating that art is a mirror of one's inner talent and that such activities provide a creative platform for students, boosting their confidence and spirit of innovation. Women's Cell In-charge, Dr. Meet, explained that the workshop's aim was create awareness about traditional Indian arts as a potential means of employment and also encourage sustainable choices. Expert Dr. Manju Ganda, a Fine Arts specialist from Government Women's College, Rania and Assistant Professor of Commerce, trained the students. She noted the resurgence of traditional Indian arts, highlighting them as a medium for self-expression and self-reliance. She encouraged students to learn seriously, as they can transform their skills into future entrepreneurial venture The workshop not only enhanced the artistic skills of students but also instilled in them a sense of responsibility towards the environment. By engaging in these creative practices, participants realized how art can serve as a form of expression, a skill for entrepreneurship and a medium to promote sustainability. The event was marked by enthusiasm, innovation, and active participation, making it a successful step towards cultivating eco-friendly creativity among students.
